I have noticed something interesting about how people react when they encounter something new for the first time. We approach it with one of the three mindsets:
🔧 Hacker mindset “How does this work? What else can I make it do?” Curiosity leads. Pull it apart, push boundaries, explore for the joy of discovery.
⚡ Utilitarian mindset “How can this solve my problem?” Map it to your workflow. Ship value. Make it useful today.
🎯 Adversarial mindset “What can I exploit or pressure test?” Hunt weak links. Game the rules. Expose what breaks under load.
These are not labels. These are lenses. They shape careers and teams.
- The hacker unlocks new possibilities.
- The utilitarian scales what works.
- The adversary reveals what fails.
All three are valuable. All three are necessary. The craft is knowing when to switch.
